Legal compliance

Your online store’s accessibility is required by law. Since 2025.

Law 232/2022 transposes the European Accessibility Act. We audit your store against EN 301 549 / WCAG 2.1 AA and fix it in code — we don’t bolt an overlay on top.

The obligation has been in force since 28 June 2025 — it is not upcoming. It applies to companies with more than 10 employees or over €2M turnover selling online. Fines range from 2,500 to 15,000 RON, but authorities can also suspend activity until remediation.

In practice, almost no Romanian online store is compliant: insufficient contrast, unlabelled form fields, images without alt text, menus that can’t be operated by keyboard, filters unusable with screen readers. It isn’t a design problem — it’s a code problem, which is exactly what we do. And the benefit isn’t only legal: an accessible store is easier for everyone to use and easier for Google to read.

What we check

The audit covers the full purchase journey

Not just the homepage: we check the exact path a customer takes to a placed order — that’s where conversions are lost and where an inspection looks.

Full keyboard navigation

Menus, filters, carousels, modals and the cart must work without a mouse, with visible focus and logical order. It is the most commonly failed criterion and the most visible in an inspection.

Screen reader compatibility

Semantic structure, labelled fields, alt text on product images, correct announcement of errors and cart updates. We test with NVDA and VoiceOver, not only automated tools.

Contrast, sizing and zoom

Contrast ratio on text and UI elements, sufficient touch targets on mobile, content that stays usable at 200% zoom and with enlarged text.

Forms, checkout and errors

Properly associated labels, identifiable and explicit error messages, validation that doesn’t rely on colour alone, a checkout fully navigable without a mouse.

How we work

From audit to a compliant store

1

Technical audit

We analyze the key pages (home, category, product, cart, checkout, account) automatically and manually against EN 301 549 / WCAG 2.1 AA. Manual testing is mandatory: automated tools catch under half the issues.

2

Prioritized report

You get the list of issues with the WCAG criterion violated, screenshots, where it sits in the code and how severe it is — ordered by legal risk and sales impact, not alphabetically.

3

In-code remediation

We fix it in the store’s theme or frontend: semantic markup, ARIA only where genuinely needed, focus states, contrast, keyboard behaviour. Works on WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Magento, Shopify or a custom frontend.

4

Re-check and statement

We re-test after remediation and prepare your accessibility statement for the site: what conforms, what doesn’t yet, and why. Honesty in the statement matters more than a perfect score.

What you actually get

  • Audit report with every issue mapped to the WCAG 2.1 AA criterion it violates
  • Screenshots and the exact code location for each issue
  • Prioritization by legal risk and conversion impact
  • Remediation effort estimate, per item
  • A 30-minute session walking through the report together
  • Accessibility statement, ready to publish (after remediation)

from 1,500 RON

The audit starts at 1,500 RON and is delivered within 5 working days. Remediation is quoted separately based on the report — you pay for what actually needs fixing, not for a guessed-at package.

We don’t sell accessibility overlays

Accessibility bars and overlays promising compliance “in one line of code” are legally contested in Europe and the US and don’t fix the underlying problems — they often make things worse for screen reader users. A widget does not make you compliant. We fix it in code, the only approach that survives an inspection.

FAQ

What people ask most

Law 232/2022 applies to e-commerce services offered to consumers. Microenterprises are exempt — under 10 employees AND under €2M turnover. If you exceed either threshold, you are in scope. Check your financials: many merchants believe they are exempt when they are not.

The audit starts at 1,500 RON and is delivered in 5 working days. Remediation depends on what we find — on a typical store most issues are repetitive and get fixed once, in components. You get a quote based on the report, not before it.

No, and nobody serious should. We are not a certification body, and compliance is assessed by the authority on the specific situation. What we do is substantially reduce risk: we find and fix non-conformities against EN 301 549 / WCAG 2.1 AA and document what was done so you can demonstrate diligence.

Cheaper, but it doesn’t solve the problem. Overlays layer an options bar over a site that stays inaccessible underneath; in the US they triggered a wave of lawsuits against the very sites using them. If budget is tight, fixing the top 10 issues in code beats papering over 100 with a widget.

A keyboard-operable checkout and properly labelled forms lift conversion for everyone, not only users with disabilities. The semantic markup accessibility requires is exactly what helps Google understand your pages. And in Romania roughly 8% of the population reports some form of disability — customers you currently cannot serve.

Yes. The audit is platform-independent — we analyze the HTML delivered to the browser. Remediation we do on WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Magento, OpenCart, Shopify, Gomag, MerchantPro or a custom-built frontend.
