How much does an online store migration cost and how long does it take

Why there is no fixed price, what factors move the budget and how to realistically estimate an e-commerce migration timeline.

"How much does a migration cost?" is the first question and, rightly, has no single answer. A store with 500 products and zero integrations is a different project from one with 100,000 products, an ERP and three marketplaces. Here are the real factors that move budget and timeline — so you know what to ask and what to compare.

Why there is no fixed price

A migration isn't "moving a website", it's rebuilding a business system with its data. Price depends on complexity, not page count. Anyone quoting a fixed price without seeing your catalog, integrations and source platform is guessing.

The factors that drive the budget

  • Catalog size and complexity — number of products, variations, attributes, categories, configurable/bundle products.
  • Source platform — how cleanly data can be exported (Shopify via API differs from an old OpenCart with custom modules).
  • Historical data migration — just products, or also customers, orders, invoices, accounts.
  • Integrations — couriers, invoicing, ERP, marketplace feeds (eMAG), payments.
  • Design — reuse the visual identity or build a new frontend.
  • Business rules — B2B pricing, price lists, group discounts, per-category VAT.
  • SEO and redirects — the volume of URLs to map and protect.

How to estimate the timeline

Duration follows the same factors. Roughly, the phases are:

  • Audit & plan — 1-2 weeks: inventory, architecture, URL mapping, estimate.
  • Development — the bulk: Sylius/Symfony backend + Next.js frontend, incremental staging deliveries.
  • Data migration — in parallel: export, mapping, import, integrity checks.
  • Integrations & testing — couriers, invoicing, payments, feeds, then QA.
  • Launch — controlled cutover + monitoring.

A mid-sized store usually lands between a few weeks and a few months, depending on how many of the above are "heavy".

The cost of NOT migrating

Weigh the hidden cost of the current platform too: sales lost to poor mobile speed, SaaS fees and subscriptions, hours lost in a slow admin, plus security risk. Over 12 months these often exceed the cost of migrating.

How to get an accurate estimate

To get a realistic price (not a hollow "from…"), prepare: your current platform, the approximate number of products, the required integrations, whether you want orders/customers migrated, and whether you keep or change the design. With that we can give a grounded estimate and a timeline.

Send us your store details and we'll return a concrete estimate plus a migration plan.
